West Texas Maternal Fetal Medicine Center, LLC Sponsors Luncheon for ABC Ministries Volunteers

Most of us are used to pregnancy and childbirth being a happy time and one full of celebration.  Unfortunately, sometimes even in the best of circumstances, things can go terribly wrong and the pregnancy may end with the untimely death of a much-anticipated baby either due to a severe birth defect or prematurity.  ABC Ministries is a group of women from Midkiff, Rankin and St. Lawrence who use their combined talents to make memory boxes, blankets, clothing and teddy bears that are provided to newly bereaved families to honor each child’s life.  The talents of ABC Ministries are now an integral part of the services provided at Odessa Regional Medical Center.

“Forget Me Not” bears and recordable devices are donated to ABC Ministries by Build-A-Bear Workshop.  Every attempt is made to record the heartbeat of each baby, which ABC Ministries then places inside a bear that they personalize for each baby.   These bears serve as a reminder of the special little life that was taken too soon.  These mementos are their gift to each family to help support them through the death of their child.

On Friday, November 11th, West Texas Maternal Fetal Medicine (the largest provider of high risk obstetric care our region) will be hosting a luncheon in conjunction with the Pediatric and Perinatal/Neonatal Palliative Program and Odessa Regional Medical Center to honor the ladies of ABC Ministries.  Their time, energy and love for these special families has been a priceless blessing to families in the Odessa/Midland area, as well as families in San Angelo, Abilene, Lubbock and other surrounding communities.  This invitation only luncheon will take place at the Green Tree Country Club at noon on Friday November 11.
